Windward Beach Park

   Windward

This has been the summer of beach hopping for my family, and we have definitely enjoyed it.  One of the beaches my children really favor is Windward Beach Park on Princeton Avenue, in Brick.  This beach is easily accessible from Point Pleasant Beach(about 6 miles), and is great for a quiet day of cooling off.  It may sound silly to some, living next to some of the more popular beach destinations in Ocean County, that we would trek over to Brick to for an afternoon in the sun.  I would call Windward Beach a ‘locals’ escape from the busy tourist season, and a more relaxing setting for mom and dad because of the calm river waters.

Windward Beach Park’s shoreline rests on the Metedeconk River which flows into Barnegat Bay.  Admission onto the beach is FREE(that’s right) and lifeguards are on duty daily during the summer.  The sandy beach area is large with plenty of room to spread out, and food is allowed so pack a lunch.  An ice cream truck waits daily to provide sweet treats for beach goers.  Swimming is restricted to a roped in area that stretches pretty far out into the river, but is never more than waist high on an adult.  This makes it very easy to keep an eye on the little ones(especially), and everyone can have fun in the water with little worries.

There is more to Windward Beach Park than the river.  My children love the three playground areas that help break up the day.  Windward Beach is home to many summer events in Brick like SummerFest, and has a large grassy field, tree shaded play areas, and covered picnic areas.  This makes it very convenient for families that need a break from the beach and sun, but aren’t ready to pack up for the day.  There are portable restroom facilities available, and even though this may not be a preferred choice of restroom, they are very well kept.

Windward Beach Park would go under the, ‘recommended for kids by kids’ category.
